Simple Autumn Elegance

Simple Autumn Elegance

Fall Decorating

Flower arranging doesn't always have to be a complex craft that requires training. The two sophisticated, yet exquisitely simple autumn designs are easy to make and great for first-timers.

You'll be amazed at how wonderful both the sheaf of wheat and the horizontal design look as part of your fall decorating scheme. Stalks of wheat shimmer in the sun like gold waves rolling across a field. Capture the beauty of wheat with a simple design.

Often seen in upscale shops and designer homes. You could use dubaidirectory.com to find  best interior design companies in Dubai. The wheatsheaf, though simple in design, adds a touch of elegance to the home for the autumn.

A Sheaf of Wheat You'll need:

Several large bundles of wheat. Bearded wheat look looks feathery and light. Give the outer stems hard twist. The twisting motion should make the stems spiral and splay away from the bundle enough that it will stand on its own. Gently push up the center of the bundle until a desired roundness achieved. Take at least a dozen long raffia strands in your hand and twist them into a tight belt. Wrap around the sheaf and tie off leaving no streamers.

Option: Braid raffia and place around the sheaf

Three of these wheat sheaves placed on a long table with preserved fall leaves, acorns, walnuts, gourds, tiny pumpkins, apples, and candles in clear glass votives create a stunning harvest tablescape.

Fall Horizontal

A horizontal design looks elegant, but is one of the simplest arrangements to create. Use any color combination that suits your home's decor, but keep in mind the height of the materials used. This design is layered, giving it a cascade look of plenty.

You'll Need: A long narrow basket or container

First of all you will need flowers that will suit with your autumn design, You can find many plants and gardening stores in Dubai using our directory.
Dry floral foam (Styrofoam tends to be difficult to insert weaker stems, floral foam works just as well) Scissors or clippers and a sharp knife Floral pins Floral picks

A variety of dried flowers and botanicals: Wheat, roses in an orange or yellow, preserved leaves, strawflowers, love in the mist pods or Chinese lanterns, and pale green hydrangeas. The colors of the design reflect the colors Mother Nature's fall palette.

1. Cut the floral foam to fit the container. If you're using more than one piece of foam, pin the two pieces together with floral pins.

2. Starting at the back, use the tallest dried plant you've selected. (wheat) Begin inserting the wheat all at approximately the same height. Use your eye to judge how high the wheat should be in relation to the container. Be careful when pushing wheat into the back edge that you don't break off pieces of foam.

3. You're going to complete one half the design end you can work out the layers as far as heights and materials used. Once you've completed one end and you're content with how it looks repeat the same steps on the other end.

4. Place orange roses as the next row in front of the wheat, cutting them slightly shorter. The next step down calls for colorful preserved leaves. Remove two or three and insert into the foam. Strawflowers, all one color, (a burnished bronze) fill in the next row. Chinese lanterns, love in-the-mist pods, or the two combined comprise the next layer. Fill in the final row with hydrangeas (pale-green or cream with brown edges) making sure the flowers cover any foam that may be showing.

You may want to turn the design around and fill in with either a moss or more hydrangea. This elegant fall floral arrangement looks its best when placed on a long table that sits against a wall. An entry table or library table are two good examples. It's not suitable for dining because it is a one-sided design, Unless you're having a buffet with traffic flowing only in front of the table and not on both sides.

Take a weekend afternoon and pull together one or both of these autumn designs for your home. The wheatsheaf takes almost no time at all, but definitely tells a story of a bountiful harvest. The more sophisticated, fall, horizontal arrangement programs the season through the use of color and flower types. Youll discover that you can get beautiful results without spending a lot of money.
